Day 4-Book Blog Tour

Suzan Buckner is one of those ‘instant like’ kind of people. We’ve had several phone conversations, always involving a healthy dose of laughter, and they always seems to come at just the right time. I’ve known Suzan since my days at ZNE (VariaZioNE the first mixed media group I ever joined) She is probably the most productive artist I know. When she says she’s going to paint 30 paintings in a month, she’ll probably paint 45-at least.

I’m not kidding

Her art makes me smile.

I’m honored to own two of her pieces in my own art collection. This is one of the pieces, reminding me of my three boys. Be sure to go and see what she has to share for Day 4 of the Blog Tour!

Day 3-Book Blog Tour

Today’s stop on the Blog Tour is Seth Apter’s Altered Page. Seth added a much-needed male element to the book. His work is strong, textural, carries impact. I have not yet had the good fortune to meet Seth in person, but believe me the next time I’m in NYC it will top my list of things to do!

The thing that was most enjoyable about working with Seth was the constant moral support he offers. He is a sensitive soul that is tuned in and a complete joy to work with! There were some crazy busy days along this journey and an email from Seth always brought a smile to my face at his continued kindness.

Seth is bringing back the Book Guild on his blog and I’m happy to be taking part in that today, stop by and see his amazing work and keep your eyes peeled for his new book, The Artist’s Pulse.

Day 2- Book Blog Tour

Live BIG! Next stop Suzi Blu!

That’s Suzi Blu to a ‘T’. She’s infectious over the internet and even more so in person. You can’t help but think all things are possible when you are around her!

The first time I met Suzi in person was a total surprise! She walked into a workshop I was teaching in CA, neither one of us knew the other one was there. I was in the back washing out brushes and I hear her voice saying “I know this journal, who’s teaching this workshop”? After squealing and hugging we got down to the business of discussing the different types of journals, papers, pros and cons of each and other art related stuff. That’s how it is when artists meet. There’s an instant connection and you just start talking art!

I was lucky to be able to meet up with her again at CHA. Again the first thing we did was pull out our journals to look at each other’s!

Doesn’t matter that we hadn’t seen each other in a couple of years, art connects us, the web keeps us in touch on a regular basis. The world of art is both big and small.

Book Blog Tour!

I’m very excited to announce that my book is being launched with a Blog Tour! Each day for the next couple of weeks there will be a different stop and you will be able to see some amazing websites and blogs, many of them from the contributors from my book!

The tour starts tomorrow with Jenny Doh.  Please be sure to stop by Jenny’s blog to put your name in the hat to win a copy of my book, admission to my latest (and only new online workshop for 2011) featuring MY NEW LINE OF PORTRAIT SKETCH STAMPS!!

The full line of these stamps will be available in the Shop at Crescendoh, and the class kit will include two of these in a large size especially developed for the workshop!

We will use the stamps to learn to draw and paint faces using mediums you might not normally use, learning to mix colors, sketch, shade, and draw your own faces. The really cool thing about these stamps is that you can continue on with what you learn in class and use them to develop your own style of portraits!

All you have to do is leave Jenny a comment and she will pick a name on March 5th!!

This is a picture of my first visit to Stampington & Co. I cannot even tell you what it felt like to see my name on Jenny’s white board that day. I was in awe of her energy, enthusiasm and utter professionalism while remaining open, approachable and friendly. Jenny inspires me to keep moving forward without fear. Bouncing ideas around with her makes me realize that you aren’t ever ‘done’, you just keep moving ahead to the next thing, big or small. It’s the forward motion that gets those creative juices bubbling. I can’t thank her enough for providing opportunities for artists to share their love of art with others. So take a minute and pop on over to her blog and check out all the exciting things she has going on!

  • Also this past weekend I was able to attend CHA for one day! It was my first time and I was thrilled to meet several artists whose work I greatly admire.
Alisa Burke, myself, and Traci Bautista!

And I was able to meet up with some book contributor/friends
Lisa Bergmann, Suzi Blu, Jenn Mason (CPS editor), myself, and Lisa Kettell!

I met up with artists at the Mixed Media Meet and Great
Myself, Traci Bunkers, Jenn Mason, Stefanie Girard, and Lisa Kettell
Stefanie and I got to check out each others new books!
Stampington’s Christen Olivarez and Amanda Crabtree were on the floor as well!
I met Claudine Hellmuth! Her book, Collage Discovery Workshop was the first mixed media book I ever bought!
The very kind and amazingly talented  Tim Holtz took a moment to look through my book-what a thrill!
Kathy Cano-Murillo and I show off our books, the Crafty Chica was having a book signing. She’s every bit as sweet and funny as you’d imagine she is
So, there’s my first experience at CHA. So fun to be able to share it with you all via facebook, from the moment I realized I was in CA and could go, to the scramble to try and get a press pass to get in, totally fun and totally worth it!
