New Shop Promotion Sale!

I’ve just added some ATC’s and prints to my Print Shop. I also have two more orders coming any day and will be adding a few more of my limited edition prints.

As for my new Art Shop, I have added a couple of new pieces this past week and to promote my new shop I am offering 30% off of an original piece to my blog readers! This will only be offered here and will end on Friday, June 5th. Just mention that you heard about the offer on my blog and I will refund your 30% savings through Paypal.

This is the last day of school, summer is truly here for us despite the rain. I am keeping busy with preparing for my summer workshop, Pursuing Portraits and as always my art journal. I just got a fabulous new product, Derivan Liquid Pencil. I did this quicky journal page last night and am loving this stuff. It is actual graphite pencil, in a liquid form that you can paint with! It literally took about 15 minutes.

Simple Pleasures

Happy Monday all. I just listed this piece in my new shop. ‘Simple Pleasures’ is done in Art Journal fashion, with lots of luscious layers that only truly show up on close inspection. You will recognize the lady from my banner, she has been added to the collage and painted over to incorporate her. The soft, muted color palette remind me of a summer day. I hope the sun is shining where you are:-)

Memories

Even though the meaning behind this piece is deeper than this, it so goes with how today makes me feel. I have been busy at the computer for most of the day, while the sun shines in from the window, warming me up and filling my studio with bright light. Memories of summer danced around while I was finishing this earlier today. It is a whopping 70 degrees today! We have such crazy weather, tonight they are calling for thunderstorms and a drop in the temperature. You just never know. I’m itching for spring, and summer, and sun.

Finished!

I finished my latest WIP! Summer brings many wonderful things, but studio time is not one of them. That is not necessarily a bad thing. It makes us slow down and enjoy things more. A lot of the time I have more than one project going on, and this is only in my art life, real life is a whole other story:-) This past month has been no exception. The difference is that with the kids home from school, and limited studio time, I am forced to slow it down. I have several writing projects in the works, and last week I pulled a couple of very late nights getting a couple of journals ready to send to the publishers, but I also have spent lazy afternoons at the pool with kids, doing absolutely nothing. Evenings are spent BBQ-ing, and visiting with friends and neighbors, and an occasional trip to the lake is squeezed in. Ahhh, wonderful!

All of the little extra details are done. Check out the cross-hatch detail on her hat, the little string attaching the price tag to the hat, and the little buttons on her dress. Tiny little things that add to the whole. The flowers are from napkins, inspired by Sharon Tomlinson’s amazing work. Little bits and pieces, gathered from here and there, that together, complete the picture. ‘Summer’s Gifts’ is available in my etsy shop. Wouldn’t you give 5cents for a cute hat like that? Happy summer day friends!

Post #3 on My Latest WIP

Here is a picture of my WIP. I have added some flowers to soften the edges on the bottom, and I have them flowing out of her hand to represent the abundance of natures gifts. Her hat is now adorned with a colorful band and another little flower, while faint images of butterflies flit around in the background. Now I get to start on the little finishing touches. This is probably my favorite part in the process. I like the piece now, and it always amazes me how the finishing touches, while seemingly small, will make such a huge difference in the final work. It’s all in the details. I love to try and draw the viewer in for a closer look, letting them find little unexpected touches on closer examination. I hope to get some studio time today, but if life gets in the way today, the anticipation of nearing the finish line will keep me happy.
