All My Eggs In One Basket

My grandma used to say ‘not to put all of my eggs in one basket’, but I couldn’t resist doing a couple more ‘Blue Speckled Egg’ pieces. My husband liked these and said that my color palette ties all of my work together. He said the next thing he knows I will have a line of art supplies, my own signature colors-lol! Thank you for the vote of confidence honey:-) I am really enjoying playing in a little different venue. I guess it’s not all that different, my first collages were somewhat along these lines, but now I am doing far more painting than collage work.

Let Freedom Ring

Inspired by recent political events, and realizing that no matter what our personal views are, we all share the beautiful gift of ‘Freedom’ in our wonderful country. If you look closely, you will see that this little birdie learned about freedom by reading about it in the newspaper that lines the floor of his cage.
I have revisited my little birdcages. It is fun to go back and pull from past pieces. I wonder if I will ever tire of little birdies, but if I had to guess right now, I’d say no. They symbolize so much, along with nests and eggs. They really speak to my mother’s heart and embody the things in life that I find myself facing. I have just listed ‘Freedom’ in my etsy shop. I am now going to go and exercise my right to ‘the pursuit of happiness’ and start another painting:-)

Angel Work In Progress

I am posting a couple of pics of my latest WIP. This piece is 12×24, and I am loving working on a different sized canvas. Because of the size, I find I have to stand to do some of the painting. It is amazing how just that difference frees up your brushstrokes. No wonder the kids I used to teach all wanted their time at the easels! So much of the time my work is smaller and I am sitting hunched over it. What a mood lifter to stand in front of it and use my whole arm while brushing the paint on. I kept thinking of a line from the movie ‘The Money Pit’ when the composer tells the painter, ‘Smooth strokes, up and down. Paint, don’t tickle.” I would encourage you to step out of your box, and try a different size work than you are used to. Stretch or shrink into it and allow your creativity to take control.

Mind Wide Open August Challenge

Boy, is it just me, or is summer just speeding up? I feel like everything is moving faster and faster, racing to the end of our lazy summer days. I almost didn’t get to take part in the Mind Wide Open challenge because of travel plans. But fortunately they got pushed back a bit and I created a little shrine that pays homage to things that I love. You will have to go to MWO to download the image and check out the guidelines. Gail has posted a beautiful image and the word prompt is ‘Secret’. I will post a picture of the back of my piece for now, I was able to scan that it came out pretty good. The image on the back is curtesy of the lovely Dawn Edmondson, who graciously posted it on her blog. The pictures that I took of the front and inside are a bit washed out, so maybe I can try to get some in natural lighting tomorrow. Then I reeeeally have to get packing, for we are off to beautiful Washington state for a family reunion! I may be 15 years past my 29th birthday, but I can sleeping bag race down Mom and Dad’s staircase with the best of them! We are a loud and crazy group when we all get together, and I can’t wait! Enjoy what’s left of summer, and try to make room for a few more of those lazy days.
