Day 16 Red

What a perfect color for a RED letter day! I had to blur out the writing a bit as this page has journaling about things I’m not ready to share, but I just love it when things go together. I already had my page partially done when my red letter moment happened and I knew exactly what I would journal about. Keeping a journal is such a fun way to have something to look back on later.

January Journal Day 13, Orange

Busy day, busy with my online class, there are a lot of talented ladies there, and busy painting and moving furniture around. For some reason ‘Spring Cleaning’ always hits me in January. I guess it’s the New Year and I want to start fresh. So I have been busy nesting along with all of my other projects. Freshening up the guest bath, painting two bedrooms, purging things no longer needed, and new bed linens. I have a ‘thing’ for sheets with a high thread count:-)
Our color today was….Orange. At first I couldn’t even think of anything to do. But I got past the color block and painted a little face onto an orange background, then I started adding some things that were the same shades and as usual I ended up finding the perfect words to capture the visual images.

Day’s 10 & 11, Online Workshop Begins!

I received some wonderful news over the weekend, my DS is going to be based only 6 hours away from home! So he and his lovely new wife will be able to come for visits and we can go to see them. This news brought a flurry of activity to our house. We decided that we needed to convert our upstairs office into a guest bedroom for them, and we gave up the formal dining room making it our home office. I feel like we’ve been moving all weekend-lol! But I did manage to get my two journal pages done, nothing like sticking to a New Years resolution. These are days 10 and 11. This week we will be doing colors, which I am working on how to incorporate that theme into my ‘Shades of Grey’ journal. I have some ideas.

The other really exciting news is that my online workshop, ‘Visual Journalism 101’ is up and running! We have a large class of wonderful art journalers in the making. If you are interested in joining us, it is not too late. Registration is still open and Creative Workshops provides an atmosphere of working at your own pace, so you can join at any time during the workshop. This is a fun way to beat the winter blues.

Self Portrait, Day 7 January Journaling, Shades of Grey

Ok, this was a hard assignment. I have been playing around with faces for awhile now. I feel like each of them has something of ‘me’ in it. This week, in our January Journaling Crusade, Misty asked us to create a self portrait. I thought, Ok, I can do this. And the actual painting of it I did in a couple of hours after the kidddo went to bed. Then when I came in to scan it and actually post it the nerves hit. Other people were going to see me. Not the photograph me, but the me from the inside out. That’s what this feels like.
I took a picture of me today. I left my glasses down, because, well that’s where they end up a lot. I am 44 and finally got bifocals this past year. Why I waited so long I will never know. This is me in Shades of Grey. Which isn’t too far from the truth as my dishwater blonde hair is surely changing that way.
Scary though this ended up being, I am trying to approach this whole journal challenge with an open mind, trying new things, working on my sketching which is one of my 2009 goals.
This will be the back cover for my journal. I still want to write on it, but I am too tired tonight. Maybe tomorrow.
PS I just added the picture I was working from. Ok, in the light of day not too close, but I find it amusing that my portrait looks more tired than the picture. I was staying up past my bedtime to work on it-lol!
