Busy day, busy with my online class, there are a lot of talented ladies there, and busy painting and moving furniture around. For some reason ‘Spring Cleaning’ always hits me in January. I guess it’s the New Year and I want to start fresh. So I have been busy nesting along with all of my other projects. Freshening up the guest bath, painting two bedrooms, purging things no longer needed, and new bed linens. I have a ‘thing’ for sheets with a high thread count:-)
Our color today was….Orange. At first I couldn’t even think of anything to do. But I got past the color block and painted a little face onto an orange background, then I started adding some things that were the same shades and as usual I ended up finding the perfect words to capture the visual images.

Blue, Day 12
Well, this week we are doing a different color everyday. I was going to try to work that into my little ‘Shades of Grey’ journal, but decided to just pull out a different journal and do the color challenges in there. Here is my offering of the color Blue. Lots of paint, and some of my favorite things in blue.

Day 9, Shades of Grey, Collage Portrait
Day 9, Yeah! I’m caught up-woo-hoo! Today we are supposed to do a collaged self portrait. I used images of things that have meaning to me as a mother, a house, a nest, an egg, wings, a clock halo as time is always a precious commodity, and her dress is actually a cathedral window so you can see into her soul. Her little face is cut out from a print of my work. I’ve assembled her into an angel and the journaling radiates from her halo. I am not an angel, but I feel their presence as I tackle life and all that it brings. I’m already loving this little journal. It is a small but thoughtfilled representation of my life right now.
Also a little plug, my Visual Journalism 101 Workshop will be starting Monday so if you are interested in getting started on your own Art Journal you can sign up through the button on the right.

What pictures do your eyes make when they are shut?

January Journaling Day 7~Shades of Grey
This was inspired by a picture I saw of one of those lovely stone angels. I don’t usually draw the eyes closed, but this depicts those moments when I just close my eyes for a minute and gather the strength that I need to do the task at hand. My eyes may be closed, but my minds eye is WIDE open. I have started to work on the cover which, of course will be painted in shades of grey.
