Nurture

I was so excited a couple of days ago to find this sweet little gift of nature in a flower pot on my deck. Two precious little eggs in a nest so close to my back door. But I have come to realize these eggs have been abandoned, the mama bird nowhere to be seen.

They inspired this painting which I have titled simply ‘Nurture’. Seeing the eggs so lovingly tucked into the nest stirs the mother’s instinct inside my heart. Sometimes despite our best intentions and efforts, we are unable to ‘mother’ for various reasons. Sometimes our children are simply too independant and we must sit on the sidelines while they find their way. They will one day realize that even when they did not want our help, we were there all the time waiting and watching.

Melange Weekly Challenge, Fly

Here is my Melange Weekly Challenge page for the word ‘Fly’. I find it really fun to work the challenge into my journaling. It makes for a stress free way to participate. If any of you want to play along you are welcome, no need to be a member of the team.
This page was done in my Moleskine Journal. ‘She dreamed of taking flight’, these words capture the feel I have as we enter summer. I long to take off and explore some new place. The traveling itch. When I go I will of course bring my journal along…

Another Journal Page to Share

I am so loving this journal. I started this last night and finished it first thing this morning, before breakfast but not before coffee-lol! Nothing ever before coffee. I love the large size of this journal too. It feels good. I love working so ‘loosely’. These crayons allow you to do such quick portraits and the black lends a unique feel to the pages. I’m thinking this one will find it’s way to canvas. I just love the quote.

Caged Heart

this is the prototype for the Caged Heart ATC I will be teaching at ZNE’s ConvenZioNE at the end of the month. I wanted to include as many techniques as possible in the one hour per class time-table and this demonstrates the use of acrylics with glazing medium, stamping, stenciling, an image transfer method that is foolproof, water soluble graphite pencil with a blending medium, Pitt pen detail, dip-dot heart, journaling, and shading/highlighting with charcoal.

I have listed this one for sale in my etsy shop. The theme comes from an ATC that was published in Cloth, Paper, Scissors July ’09.

Nest

Today is one of those rainy, windy, don’t want to leave the house kind of days. The kind where you want to cuddle up in your cozy nest and work in your journal, read a good book, or maybe get ambitious and make some cookies. I’m doing all of those things as well as finishing off this new piece for my etsy shop.
I have also added custom cut mats to all of my fine art prints so that they are easy to pop into an 8×10 frame with no worries about have a special mat cut. I’m offering the same type of mattes in a 5×7 size for my ATC/ACEO’s also, making them great for framing.
Hope you have some quiet, nesting time today~enjoy

A New Beginning

Busy working like a fiend, but managed to finish this finally and get it listed. No journal page today, but at least some art and lots of writing. Hope you are all being productive:-) The sun is out and makes me long for spring, but that cold 30 degree temp is keeping me inside. This piece feels just like that to me. Longing for spring flowers on a bright, cold, winter day.
Misty Mawn’s latest piece inspired me a bit with this one. I love her use of white. She gets so much texture from a simple color palette.
