PORTRAITS IN THE BAG

Pam Carriker
Portraits in a Bag
One Day Workshop
Kit Fee: $20.00

Have you longed to try your hand at doing portraits but been afraid? Portraits can be intimidating but in this

workshop you can’t fail! We will be using my new Face Map Stencils from StencilGirl Products and learn how to

create front, side and ¾ view portraits, where to shade, highlight and where all those facial features belong on the face.

We will then ‘paint’ the portraits on plain old paper bags, using Faber Castell Gelatos and other media, creating skin tones

using a variety of methods. Notes for techniques taught in class can be added directly to your journal as well as your own

personal thoughts. This is a great class for the beginner or anyone who loves to make unique art journals. We will be

working in 6 x 6 paper bag albums to create these fun, unique art journals that the both the beginner and the seasoned

journaler will enjoy.

Kit Fee: $20.00
Includes: 6 x 6” paper sewn paper bag album, Faber Castell White Big Brush Pen, water soluble pencil, and a 1 9×12 Face Map Stencil-front view.

Plus opportunity to use Gelatos and paints provided by the instructor.

Supply List:
Assorted paint brushes, journaling pens, pencil, water container.

BUSTING OUT – 3D ART JOURNALING STYLE SELF PORTRAITS

Pam Carriker
Busting Out
Two Day Workshop
Kit Fee: $25.00

It’s time to take creating portraits to a whole new level! Creating a 3-D portrait bust that is really a

dimensional self-portrait journal page, incorporating collage, journaling, sculpting, and painting.

We will bring Styrofoam wig forms to life, and create work that is reflective of who we are at this moment

in time as well as document our journey in an art journal spread that we will make in class. This class is

about more than just creating a beautiful piece of Art, it’s about making a visual statement about who we are,

what we stand for, and where we want to go. I featured one of these busts in my book, Art at the Speed of Life,

and what you can’t see in the picture are the layers of under journaling that was part of the process. We all are

made up of layers and most of us can put on a pretty good outward face, but it’s what’s underneath that matters most.

Join me as we dig down to find out what’s behind the face the world sees.

Supply List:
Paint brushes, water container, palette, an art journal of your choosing (can be one you are working in)

or 1 9 x 12 sheet of watercolor paper, bone folder tool,

1 roll of 4″ x 5 yards long Rigid-Wrap Plaster Cloth http://www.dickblick.com/products/activa-rigid-wrap-plaster-cloth/,

black permanent ink pen, graphite pencil

Kit Fee: $25.00 - Includes Life size wig form, Faber Castell White Big Brush Pen and Mixed Media Kit (neutrals)

rubber gloves, kneaded eraser, blending stump.  Use of instructor’s paints and mediums.

Optional items: Personal collage material (thin paper works best-no cardstock) journaling pens, additional items

to add to the sculpture such as buttons, keys, ephemera, lace, anything to personalize it.

    Hi Lesli,
I love Portland, not far from where I was born in Longview, WA! Unfortunately, I’m not teaching near there this next year. I will have a complete list of where I’m teaching in 2013 up soon on my website and maybe you’ll be able to travel to one of the locations? I hope so:-)

    Hi Pam,

I love your portraits and would love to take some classes. I know you have some on-line, but I much prefer to take classes with other folks. Do you ever teach in the Portland, Oregon area?

I'd love to hear from you
