StencilGirl Friendzy

A Royal Mixed Media Art Retreat

Wednesday, March 5th & Thursday, March 6th
Event fee: $425.00

Detailed Schedule

Once upon a time, in a Queendom not so far away…. It came to pass that four artists dreamed of coming together in a royal venue to teach fun, innovative mixed media techniques, hereafter known as StencilGirl Friendzy! This unique collaborative event marries art and stencils with friendship, and endeavors to move creativity up a notch.

You will be a part of an amazing sisterhood of stencil wonderment, as you are introduced to tons of techniques using stencils, paint, paper, markers, plaster and more! All students will work with all four artist/teachers, rotating through diverse and innovative mixed media processes in each 3-hour segment. You will depart the Queendom after two days with a fantastic artistic journal plus tons of skills that can be applied to a variety of future projects… in queenish terms, you will have “refined your technique and transformed your art”! You will learn techniques and tricks from each artist that are reflective of their mixed-media styles. You will use limited-edition stencils created by each artist and exclusive to this event, in the creation of your journal, then keep these four unique stencils as your gifts from the StencilGirl Friendzy artists. All materials for your 58-page 9×12″ bound journal built from watercolor paper and canvas panels are included in your event fee. Minimal student supplies will be required.

Help Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort

I know many of you probably feel the same way I do when I watched Hurricane Sandy hit and leave behind devastation and enormous hardship to the people on the East Coast, what can I possibly do to help?

Several of us have donated art as an extra incentive to help those in need. ‘Determined’ seemed like a perfect choice for me to donate as I see inspiring story after inspiring story of the determined spirit of those who have lost everything go about reclaiming their lives in the aftermath of the storm.

‘Determined’ 9 x 12 x 2 gallery wrapped canvas ready to hang

Sometimes we think our ‘small’ effort isn’t enough to help and if we can’t do something big we don’t bother-but that’s what’s so great about being a small part of a big thing like the raffle Art Is You is putting together! If we each can just give something small, those many small things become a very big blessing to someone who has lost everything. I hope you’ll look at the information below and see if there is a way you can help. This is a time for America to stand together and help those in need!

Join Art is…You, Adorn Me!An Artful JourneyThe Artful Gathering and Vivi Magoo Presents – as we raise much needed funds for essential personal and household items for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Working with Family to Family and local relief agencies we will have your donation delivered directly to where it is needed – into the hands of those who have lost everything.  Let them see how we can unite and Live in Generosity.  Let them feel our love.

We would like to thank our four wonderful art friends who stepped forward to help us with our efforts. Kim Geiser for donating her Ipadoodle talents and creating this wonderful logo promoting our efforts.  Pam CarrikerSue Pelletier and Jodi Ohl – who have donated a piece of art as an added incentive for anyone who makes a donation on our site.  You will go into the draw to win one of these fabulous pieces of art.  Drawing will take place November 30th, 2012 at 9.00am Eastern.

Just click on the DONATE NOW Button and you will have the opportunity to make a cash donation or purchase actual items including groceries or gas cards.  Once you have donated, please share on Facebook, tell your friends – get the word out that this village of artists, their family and friends are united in rebuilding the lives of those around them.

Finally we would like to take this opportunity to thank Linda Young, Barb Solem, Cindy Woods, and Cristina Zinnia Galliher for their personal attention to this initiative!

Day 5 Book Blog Tour

Today’s stop is Sue Pelletier! Sue was an easy choice for a contributor. Her work is so textural and fun, and beautiful. It makes me want to play at art. Her teaching skills shine through from her day job as an Art Teacher.

Sue’s contribution to my book is a fabulous project that reminds me so much of the dresses my mom made for my sister and I when we were young. My favorite dress was a lavender jumper with purple satin lining. I still remember the feel of that dress. Kind of like a security blanket with tattered satin binding, I’d sit in school and rub the lining between my fingers. Wearing clothes my mom made for me allowed me to take her love and the security of home with me when my school days began.

Sadly I’m not a sewer, but when Sue’s project came along I knew that I didn’t have to sew to re-create my favorite dress!

I hope the projects in this book will inspire you to recall special moments, feelings, and events in your life and use them in your artwork.
