Online Workshop Giveaway(s)!!!

I’m really excited about my two upcoming online workshops and the main reason is because it’s the only time I’m teaching online this year! I’d so hate for you to miss the fun. I love doing online classes buy my schedule is just too full right now to more than this. Now, I know it’s durning the summer (all summer long if you take both sessions) but the awesome thing about these classes is that you have the option to purchase a DVD of all of the video lessons from inside the workshop! So if you don’t have time to do all of the workshop this summer you can pop in, say hi and download the written materials, purchase a DVD and do the class later at your own pace, no worries! Almost every person opted for the DVD last year, most just to have on hand to revisit the material later. And seriously, I guarantee you that as soon as registration closes there will be people wanting in-it happens every year! So don’t get busy and forget to sign up today!

Back to School

Since school’s started back up I’m afraid I’ve woefully neglected my blog. All those projects that kept getting put off this summer caught up with me as I’m sure many of you can relate to! I felt like summer was over much too quickly and was even a bit down about it but I finally surrendered to the soon coming of Fall and have been spending hours each day in my studio.

 ’I Surrender’ 16 x20 canvas

I’ve been working like a mad woman since day one of back to school. Some things I can’t share yet, but I’m thrilled with the progress and will hopefully be able to show them to you soon.

‘Scarlet’s Letter’ 16 x20 wood panel

I have been working on finishing up many WIP’s in the midst of my projects. I like to do a little ‘Spring Cleaning’ in the Fall, so I gathered up several pieces that had been started but not finished and set about getting them done. I’m very excited to be vending at Art Is You in Stamford the first week in October and along with products I’ll be bringing some original artwork.

‘In Remembrance’ 5 x 7 paper

Like many of you, life is all about making decisions on what you can and can’t do, so selling artwork has been on the back burner for some time. My Etsy shop has dust bunnies in it and I’m not sure if/when I’ll ever focus on that venue, but selling some artwork at the art retreats this next year is something I’m going to take on.

‘Facing Forward’ 5 x 7 paper

So with the start of school  I’m in a ‘New Year’ kind of mood, finishing things up, starting new things, planning, executing those plans and venturing out a bit more. I hope you are doing the same and looking forward to cooler weather and more studio time~

Poetic Portraits Giveaway!

I’ve been wanting to give away some of my new stamps since they came out at the beginning of July, but life got hectic as I finished up the manuscript for my book, traveled to Arizona to teach at Art Unraveled, to Washington twice for family events and I just finished up proposals for some of next years art retreats with only a day to spare before the deadline!

That’s how it is at times and I’m sure you can relate as we all can get so busy. Even our own artwork can take a backseat at times, but I want to encourage you to use your art journaling to fill the void when more complete works of art cannot be created.

I decided to use one of my new stamps to jumpstart a journal page I needed to do for the Sketchbook Challenge theme of ‘Shelter’. This made journaling with limited time doable and fun as I let the page unfold.

I hope you’ll take a minute to click on the above link to see the completed page and check out all of the wonderful inspiration at The Sketchbook Challenge~

Now, for the giveaway…

It’s simple, for every 50 comments I’ll give away a stamp from my new line of Poetic Portraits stamps!! So just take a moment and leave a comment about what creativity you’ve been up to this summer and spread the word because I’d love to give away a lot of stamps!!

For a look at the complete line, you can go HERE

I will draw names on Friday the 17th!!!

I’m so thrilled to announce that my new stamp Poetic Portraits line from Stampington is now available for pre-order! And at a 10 % discount!! (to be taken off the prices shown here)

A couple of weeks ago I was able to visit Stampington & Co while in CA, with my friend Joanne Sharpe. Let me tell you, the talking, brainstorming and wonderful ideas for artistic pursuits that ensued would make your head spin! So amazing to hang out with others interested in art to the degree that you are.

I spied my book keeping company with the love Rice Freeman Zachery’s book at the Shoppe at Somerset

And we got to take a tour of the shop where all of the stamps are made…here…in the USA…by one man…Darryl Groves

Who cooks

(these are some of Dina Wakely’s new line!)

hand cuts (looks like he may work out in between;-)

and packages each stamp!

The attention to detail is personal to him and he obviously takes great pride in his work. It makes me very proud to say my stamps are Made in America and I’m in awe that this one man handles the whole process!

Here’s a little video from Stampington & Co about how the stamps are made

Still Pursuing Portraits

Artful Gathering the online Art Retreat is underway!!! I you want to take an art ‘staycation’ this is it!! Many classes to choose from and you can take more than one! Not sure you’ll be able to complete your class during the 6 week course? No worries, many of the workshops are offering a DVD option in their classroom, including me!

Student work has begun rolling in for my brand new online workshop Still Pursuing Portraits and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

We are chatting it up and flexing those drawing muscles and fearlessly pursuing the art of drawing portraits using a method I taught myself that allows you to sketch rapidly and develop a portrait style all your own.

Just check out some of the work that has already been done since class opened on Wednesday!!! We are one large, happy group and we’d love to have you join in so if you’re looking to improve your sketching skills this summer this may be for you! This is the only time this class will be offered in 2012, so don’t miss out!
