CREATE

Home for a couple of days and then off to Costa Mesa and CREATE! I can’t wait to share all the happenings of this past week with you, but you’ll have to wait just a bit. I did get to stare at some eye candy for at least some of the time;-)

You really just never know who you’ll run into!

I had the good fortune to meet my editor Elaine Lipson for the first time as well! She’s awesome and I hope to work her again someday.

and it’s always so much fun to meet other artists and make new friends like Paula Phillips!

This week I’m heading to Costa Mesa and so looking forward to meeting many online friends in real life! I’m packing up my art kits and supplies, hoping to keep my suitcase under the 78lbs it was for the last venture, but no promises there.

Officially Excited!

Well, I’ve shared a bit about working on some things with Derivan Matisse and yesterday I signed on the dotted line to make it official-a product line of new and exciting art supplies! This is something I’m so excited about, things I want for art supplies in my own studio and now I get to help make them available to you as well.

This company produces top-notch artist paints and mediums making it very easy to say yes to working with them. I’ll share more specific details when I can, but I want to thank everyone for the well wishes on Facebook. It is so wonderful to be able to share and celebrate things in that way with each other.

I’ve also been busy getting ready for two upcoming Art Retreats. Here are some samples of what I’m teaching. I’m really looking forward to it and hope to see some of you there!

Day 12-Book Blog Tour

I am so happy to announce the next stop on the Blog Tour- my friend Laurie Blau-Marshall. Laurie and I have known each other for um, 34 years-egads! I swear it doesn’t seem possible!

But there are pictures to prove it, now don’t laugh, remember this was a loooooong time ago….

Homecoming circa 1979-remember Gunne Sax dresses (if you don’t just pretend so we don’t feel old ok?) well now you can get ‘Vintage Gunne Sax’ dresses on Etsy.

Laurie and I lived right across the street from each other and shared many things, clothes, makeup, school locker, and a love for doodling and making things pretty.

Here are some pages I still have from then, I now think of them as the first art journal pages

Many years went by and we had lost touch with each other, but 2007 found us both chosen for the same ZNE Design team! I actually still get goosebumps when I remember the feeling of realizing that Laurie Blau-Marshall was THE Laurie Blau!! Thank goodness for the hyphen or it may have taken us a  lot longer!

This was taken when we finally met up again a few years back. Art brought us back together and Laurie was the first one to tell me about an awesome magazine called ‘Cloth Paper Scissors’.  I’m so happy that we found each other again and that she agreed to participate in the book.

Day 9-Book Blog Tour

The next stop on the Tour is Chrysti Hydeck!

I’ve known Chrysti since my early days of mixed media when we were both members of ZNE, an online mixed media group. I knew ‘of’ her before I ‘knew’ her and was in awe of not only her talent, but her whole outlook on her artistic life. She amazes me continually with her strength and the way she turns what could be negative into positive.

When she wrote her essay for my book, I read it and then immediately showed it to my husband (who is an aspiring writer, having written a novel and with two more in the works-know any good agents???) He read it and was thoroughly impressed! Since that time the tweets fly between them, and me when I remember to sign in, (I’m the worlds worst tweeter) and we are all looking forward to a time when the four (Chrysti and her significant other, Nate and I) can hang out and talk creative stuff!

Chrysti knew about my book before it was a book. And graciously agreed to be part of it. She cheered me on, offered advice, and listened when I needed an ear. There’s a word for that….FRIEND!

Back in 2008 Chrysti interviewed me on her website INTERVIEW and one of the questions was

“What’s one artistic skill you’d like to cultivate in the coming year?

“I have been concentrating on sketching in my journal.  I love collage, but want to develop my drawing skills further.”

I’m always happy when I can look back and I’ve publicly stated a goal and then actually acted on it. That’s the thing with putting it out there-you’re accountable!!

On another note:

Here’s a pic of my first Book Signing yesterday at Barnes & Noble!

Day 8-Book Blog Tour

Nancy Lefko is next up on the tour.

If you journal you have probably seen her work in Stampington’s Art Journaling magazines. We have been ‘neighbors’ in many issues and share a love of this art form. We have a collaborative article with another avid journaler Carrie Todd in the most recent issue of Art Journaling

Our lives seem to mirror each other’s in many ways, each of us having 3 boys, roughly the same ages, both SAHM’s who love to make our house a home. We will be meeting in real life come October 2011!! We’re both teaching and roomies at Art Is…Who in Connecticut and I can’t wait!

Today is also my first official Book Signing at Barnes and Noble in Springfield, MO!

Day 7-Book Blog Tour

Todays stop on the Blog Tour is the glittery world of Lisa Kettell!

Lisa and I met up again at CHA this past January (left to right, Julie Bergmann, Jenn Mason, me, and Lisa Kettell) Lisa, Julie and I had all met a couple of years ago in Pleasanton, CA and it was fun to all be together again and fill each other in on the new directions we were going with our art.

Lisa has a book out ( I have my own signed copy:-)

Lisa and I met the first time at the ZNE ConvenZioNE in 2009. She’s an easy person to like and tons of fun! We made an instant connection, one that happens when like minded people meet.

She’s sparkly. And she’s a hard-very hard- worker! She’s got something exciting going on all the time! That is what made her a perfect person to contribute to Art at the Speed of Life. So be sure to stop by her blog today and check it out!!

Day 6-Book Blog Tour

Sharon Tomlinson‘s portraits first caught my eye in Cloth Paper Scissors. They are so beautiful, pretty, and full of personality.

Sharon’s work ethic also impressed me. She manages to create an amazing amount of art. Even working from her desk at her day job. I was thrilled this busy woman agreed to join me on this book adventure!

She makes ‘trash’ beautiful-look at what she did to this piece of cardboard!

You really need to check out how her alter ego-Sharon of All Sharon’s Art whispers inspiration in her ear.

I also wanted to let you know I’ve spent the last couple of days finally listing some of my original artwork in my Etsy Shop! So go and check it out and while you’re there maybe give it a heart:-)
