Help Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort

I know many of you probably feel the same way I do when I watched Hurricane Sandy hit and leave behind devastation and enormous hardship to the people on the East Coast, what can I possibly do to help?

Several of us have donated art as an extra incentive to help those in need. ‘Determined’ seemed like a perfect choice for me to donate as I see inspiring story after inspiring story of the determined spirit of those who have lost everything go about reclaiming their lives in the aftermath of the storm.

Sometimes we think our ‘small’ effort isn’t enough to help and if we can’t do something big we don’t bother-but that’s what’s so great about being a small part of a big thing like the raffle Art Is You is putting together! If we each can just give something small, those many small things become a very big blessing to someone who has lost everything. I hope you’ll look at the information below and see if there is a way you can help. This is a time for America to stand together and help those in need!

Join Art is…You, Adorn Me!An Artful JourneyThe Artful Gathering and Vivi Magoo Presents – as we raise much needed funds for essential personal and household items for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Working with Family to Family and local relief agencies we will have your donation delivered directly to where it is needed – into the hands of those who have lost everything.  Let them see how we can unite and Live in Generosity.  Let them feel our love.

We would like to thank our four wonderful art friends who stepped forward to help us with our efforts. Kim Geiser for donating her Ipadoodle talents and creating this wonderful logo promoting our efforts.  Pam CarrikerSue Pelletier and Jodi Ohl – who have donated a piece of art as an added incentive for anyone who makes a donation on our site.  You will go into the draw to win one of these fabulous pieces of art.  Drawing will take place November 30th, 2012 at 9.00am Eastern.

Just click on the DONATE NOW Button and you will have the opportunity to make a cash donation or purchase actual items including groceries or gas cards.  Once you have donated, please share on Facebook, tell your friends – get the word out that this village of artists, their family and friends are united in rebuilding the lives of those around them.

Finally we would like to take this opportunity to thank Linda Young, Barb Solem, Cindy Woods, and Cristina Zinnia Galliher for their personal attention to this initiative!

Last Chances

Sad to leave friends Mary Beth Shaw and Joanne Sharpe after Art Unraveled but so glad I’ll be seeing them again soon at Art Is!!!

School is starting and I’m left scratching my head as to where the summer went?! I’m sure a lot of you can totally relate to that feeling.

BFF Nancy Lefko and I met for the first time IRL at Art Is last year after being online buddies for years!

I feel the same way when going to teach at art retreats. There is so much planning (already sending in proposals for next year) and build up before the retreats then you get there and have such an amazing time with art friends that you only once or if you’re lucky a few times a year, and the time is over in a blink.

It leaves you looking forward with great eagerness to the next venue when you can see your friends again!

Hamming it up with Kecia Frazee Deveney and Michael DeMeng at Art Is last year

Art Is…You is coming up in October. I’m looking forward to it with both eagerness and a touch of sadness as it’s the last big retreat of 2012 and I know I’m going to have an amazing time there.

On the subject of ‘making’ new friends, I’m really excited to be teaching my Busting Out-Self Portrait Journaling workshop at Art Is. This is the only place I’m offering this fun and personal workshop. Not only will we explore journaling techniques in 3D, we will also learn how to shade portraits in the easiest way possible. All of the face painting techniques can be applied to flat work but working on an actually dimensional face will allow you to see where shadows fall from front, side, and 3/4 views. It’s a great way to learn as we start with some cool long-necked wig forms and build layers similar to that of a journal page and then continue on to paint a portrait with all of the facial features already in place!

There’s still room in this workshop and I hope if you haven’t yet decided which workshop you are going to take, you’ll consider joining me for Busting Out!

You’ll also have a travel buddy for the trip home;-)

I’m also teaching Get the Lead Out! with some cool techniques using my Liquid Pencil Sketching Inks. This workshop is loaded with fun products (that you’ll get in your class kits) and fun new techniques to do everything from still life to portraits to journal pages!

If you haven’t yet stopped by to leave a comment to win one of my new stamps from my Poetic Portraits line there’s still time! I’m giving away 1 stamp for every 50 comments, giving away 4 so far and I want to give away more so spread the word!

Facing Circles

Hi Everyone,

Cannot believe summer is flying by like it is! So much going on and trying to enjoy the hot but lovely weather as well!

I have a new post on how I did this journal page on The Sketchbook Challenge blog today, hope you’ll stop by and take a peak. This months theme is circles.

Tomorrow is the official release of my new line of Art Stamps, Poetic Portraits (available through Stampington & Co) and those of you who’ve pre-ordered them will be getting them soon!

I’m also getting ready to head to Phoenix at the end of the month, yep that’s right Phoenix in the summer! But it’s cool where I’m going, Art Unraveled to have fun with my art friends and teach a couple of classes!

We’ll be Puzzling Portraits, creating self-portrait journal pages on puzzle boards using some awesome Faber Castell Mixed Media Sampler kits that they’ve graciously provided for the whole class!

And I’ll share with you my tips for carving your own lino cuts in A Cut Above using Speedball cutting tools that Speedball has provided for the class kits. Lots of goodies and lots of fun! All in the lovely air-conditioned hotel!

Hope you’re enjoying summer and finding plenty of time to create as well~

So you may know I’m teaching at Art Is…You on the East Coast this October but what you may not know is there is a Tutu Revolution going on!! So it’s time to dust off that tutu or get a cool one from Carrie Clayden of Hip Chick Designs and Bring It to Art Is!!!

Stampington & Co has a blog-did you know? It’s full of tutorials and how to’s from guest artists one of which I’m thrilled to be this month! I’m sharing a tutorial on  Shiva Paintstiks and how to create a non-messy ‘oil’ painting. I hope you’ll stop by and check it and the other wonderful tutorials there and don’t forget to sign up to receive email notifications so you can keep up with Stampington’s latest~

And for the Happy Dance…I’ve been sitting on a secret for some time now and it was just reveled in the May issue of Somerset Studio

Yes! My happy dance for a line of stamps coming out very soon with Stampington & Co!!! You can check out my article about my “Lost Journal” (remember the journal I lost last August during our move?) and get a little sneak peek at some of the inspiration behind the designs for my new stamp line! If you’re interested in carving your own lino blocks check out my upcoming classes at CREATE and Art Unraveled.

This has been an exciting couple of weeks and I’m completely honored to be the Profile Artist for the spring issue of Art Journaling. I was in the inaugural issue of this publication and many since and I’m so glad they’ve now made this a quarterly magazine! There’s so much inspiring journaling going on all around us.  If you are of a mind you may want to submit a journal of your own to Art Journaling. You can find all of the information on their website
