Nest

Today is one of those rainy, windy, don’t want to leave the house kind of days. The kind where you want to cuddle up in your cozy nest and work in your journal, read a good book, or maybe get ambitious and make some cookies. I’m doing all of those things as well as finishing off this new piece for my etsy shop.
I have also added custom cut mats to all of my fine art prints so that they are easy to pop into an 8×10 frame with no worries about have a special mat cut. I’m offering the same type of mattes in a 5×7 size for my ATC/ACEO’s also, making them great for framing.
Hope you have some quiet, nesting time today~enjoy

Fall is Here

Well, there is no denying it, fall is here. The leaves are piling up in the yard, the nests are empty of birds, and the nights are cool. I found a lovely little birds nest in the young maple tree in our front yard. It is a reminder of the home that it was for a little family of birds. One of my birds has flown from my nest, and one is spreading his wings with thoughts of what college he would like to attend. These are exciting times, but also a tad sad as life is ever changing. This piece, Empty Nest, was inspired by these things. One little leaf clings to the tree and the little nest is empty of eggs. While these things bring a touch of sadness, we still have the promise of spring, the warmth of being inside by the fire in the winter, and the memories that never leave us. Tuck away these little treasures so that you may pull them out on a crisp fall morning, and look forward to the adventures that still lay ahead.

Mind Wide Open August Challenge Pictures

Here are some additional pictures of my entry. I have had this wooden shrine (5 1/2x 9x 2) for ages. It jumped right out at me when I saw the image and word prompt for this challenge. Since the word prompt is ‘secret’, I searched for a quote that would tie it into the bird theme I wanted to use. I found the perfect words, ‘When you have found a birds nest, you have found him out. You have found the very center of his life and his greatest secret.’ I found this quote after I had completed the piece, which sad to say is often the case for me. It seems a backward way to go at it, but it always seems to work out well for me-lol! It was fun using some of my paint techniques on something other than canvas. I also used mica to highlight a couple of areas, including the womans face. I also added a sweet little birds nest with some feathers and fibers, an old door pull with a face peeking out, some lovely little eggs with bits of hardware attached and some little scraps of cloth to hang them by that are suspended from little hooks. It is hard to capture the depth of the piece. Layers of papers and paints, and stamped/stenciled images, have been worked into the background. I hope you will all check out Mind Wide Open when the voting begins, Friday the 8th. From the amount of eye candy that was there last month, it is sure to be a treat!

Mind Wide Open August Challenge

Boy, is it just me, or is summer just speeding up? I feel like everything is moving faster and faster, racing to the end of our lazy summer days. I almost didn’t get to take part in the Mind Wide Open challenge because of travel plans. But fortunately they got pushed back a bit and I created a little shrine that pays homage to things that I love. You will have to go to MWO to download the image and check out the guidelines. Gail has posted a beautiful image and the word prompt is ‘Secret’. I will post a picture of the back of my piece for now, I was able to scan that it came out pretty good. The image on the back is curtesy of the lovely Dawn Edmondson, who graciously posted it on her blog. The pictures that I took of the front and inside are a bit washed out, so maybe I can try to get some in natural lighting tomorrow. Then I reeeeally have to get packing, for we are off to beautiful Washington state for a family reunion! I may be 15 years past my 29th birthday, but I can sleeping bag race down Mom and Dad’s staircase with the best of them! We are a loud and crazy group when we all get together, and I can’t wait! Enjoy what’s left of summer, and try to make room for a few more of those lazy days.
