Caged Heart

this is the prototype for the Caged Heart ATC I will be teaching at ZNE’s ConvenZioNE at the end of the month. I wanted to include as many techniques as possible in the one hour per class time-table and this demonstrates the use of acrylics with glazing medium, stamping, stenciling, an image transfer method that is foolproof, water soluble graphite pencil with a blending medium, Pitt pen detail, dip-dot heart, journaling, and shading/highlighting with charcoal.

I have listed this one for sale in my etsy shop. The theme comes from an ATC that was published in Cloth, Paper, Scissors July ’09.

Let Freedom Ring

Inspired by recent political events, and realizing that no matter what our personal views are, we all share the beautiful gift of ‘Freedom’ in our wonderful country. If you look closely, you will see that this little birdie learned about freedom by reading about it in the newspaper that lines the floor of his cage.
I have revisited my little birdcages. It is fun to go back and pull from past pieces. I wonder if I will ever tire of little birdies, but if I had to guess right now, I’d say no. They symbolize so much, along with nests and eggs. They really speak to my mother’s heart and embody the things in life that I find myself facing. I have just listed ‘Freedom’ in my etsy shop. I am now going to go and exercise my right to ‘the pursuit of happiness’ and start another painting:-)
