I’m thrilled to be one of the 31 spotlight artists in Seth Apter’s new book! It’s hot off the press and full, FULL, of over a hundred mixed media artists answering many questions about the mixed media community at large. I have asked Seth to answer one of his own questions for us so we can see a bit more of the man behind this book~
So Seth, What is your biggest pet peeve in terms of art?
Here is a peek at my self portrait from the book. No, it doesn’t look like me particularly, but the layers of under journaling are from my heart and allow me to put myself into my work.
I was thrilled to get a quick peek at Seth’s book at CHA in January!
And to meet Seth in person last October at Art Is! If you haven’t visited his blog The Altered Page, you’re in for a treat! I hope you’ll take a moment to stop by and wish him congratulations on his amazing accomplishment.
You can find this book HERE
Well done Seth and many, many congratulations!
I have been reading your blog and following your artistic journey for quite some time now. I love your honesty and transparency. Seth made a great choice by including you in his new book!
Hello Pam, just came over from Seth’s blog – congratulations to all concerned. I have your book and have seen your work in magazines so I can easily understand why you were chosen. Delighted to hear you are doing another book!
It’s true. ALL ART COUNTS. Everything is a part of the whole that is our world that we share. Love your art Pam. Love it. *smiles* Norma
You surely deserve to be in the book-I have yours-and refer to it a lot for direction and inspiration-
well that was a wonderful response to your question. i always feel that art is a safe and wonderful place to explore and express, no rights or wrongs.
your self portrait is wonderful!
Seth is a truly gifted artist. I really like his answer about being unable to take photos of art. That is often the case, it seems. I’m glad he pointed that out.
Pam…I applaud your philosophy!…..when I owned a store in the 80’s and 90’s we fought to merge all “Art Worlds” or at least burn the hierarchy!
who needs it when we ALL have our own work to do??!!!
I hope to meet you one day in person, until then…keep the flame burning!
Looking forward to getting Seth’s book. Just thought you should know that your book, “Art at the Speed of Life” is the ONLY art book I have ever read cover to cover. That says a lot! Thank you so much for writing it!
I’m so glad that you are in this book, Pam. I have been following Seth’s postings this month and have met so many new artists.
First time visit your blog, looking forward to see more, I’d love to win the book also!
That looks like an amazing book. I love your piece that is featured.
Congratulations for your wonderful art being a part of Seth’s book! Excited to find your blog via Seth’s and to see all the wonderful things you create and do. Will hop over to your Facebook page next. So nice to meet you here. I love the soft yellow tones of your self portrait.
Pam,
I think the self portrait does look like you. I love the idea of underwriting building a base of emotion and passion in your work. I just finished a canvas painting with underwriting and I truly connect to the piece working in this way. Always love your work and you have a terrific prescence when you teach. Your class was the first online class I experienced. Next I’ll try for an in person workshop. Hope you are settled in your new home…fun to see the studio shots.

Astute question and humble answer. This has been such a wonderfully enlightening experience and I look forward to seeing/having the book.
Do you not love Seth’s down-to-earth yet heavenly approach to art? I’m glad you asked him about his pet peeve. In reading his book I get this sense, myself, from all the different perspectives and opinions and practices of the artists, that there is no excuse for being snobbish about art/craft/creativity. It’s a pointless death to someone’s creativity to exclude what they do from the ‘inner circle’. I think this might be one reason people try to copy others–the fear that their own voice is not good enough.
I have grown to know more about your work, Pam, and love it. And the images Seth offers on his post are stunning. You have great skill with color and shade.
