I’m Back, finally March 31, 2009

It seems like forever since I’ve posted. We had an amazing time in D.C., walking our legs off going to museums and monuments everyday. To say it was inspiring would be an understatement. I have not even uploaded the pictures yet, just trying to catch up on home-life and things first. I did finish this piece. I saw so many beautiful works of art my head is simply swimming. I was itching to get back in my studio and put some sketches to good use. This one is titled ‘Remember‘.
On the home front, we came home to the upsetting news that my step mom has Breast Cancer. We won’t know anything more until Friday, but I would so appreciate your prayers. My family has been through this battle before, twice with my dad and once with my step dad, all with good outcomes, so we are being as positive as we can about the battle ahead.

I have much more to share, but not much time today, I am getting ready for a speaking engagement with the Southwest Missouri Art Teachers Association this Saturday. The president of the assoc asked me to demonstrate some art journal techniques after reading my article in Somerset’s Art Journaling. I am looking forward to this opportunity.

I took a break from the writing/taping/business side of art to work on this series of angels. Oh what a lovely day it was!
Sun shining, I headed to the backyard and painted outside.
The birds were singing and the temperature was perfect, I even painted my toenails and put on flip flops!
The peaceful quiet, the warm sun, the music of nature, all combine in an inspiring calming of the senses.
No frantic rushing today,
Available in my Etsy Shop
Also, if you are interested in the ‘Shades of Grey’ Workshop, it begins next Monday!

Spring is Here, It is! March 13, 2009

It really is! I saw little lavender blooms on my creeping phlox, my clemantis has new shoots, and it’s my oldest sons birthday tomorrow. These things all tell me that spring is here. My excitement runs high today as I bake a yummy chocolate cake in honor of his special day, because my boy is coming home to celebrate and bringing my new daughter in law! So mom has been cleaning, cooking,
and wrapping presents. Last year he signed up to join the army on his birthday, and I really did not dare to hope that he would be home to celebrate it this year, so this is a true blessing. Enjoy the sun, while I enjoy my son:-)

My New Baby Moleskine March 9, 2009

I went and got a little 3 1/2 x 5 1/2, baby Moleskine journal. It’s so cute! I wanted something small to carry around in my purse that would be mainly for writing and sketching. I really love having different sizes to work in, and also different papers. I still love the Watercolor Field Notebooks for good old messy, painty journaling, but love the smooth, heavy sketch paper in the Moleskines.
I think it’s important to vary the size of page you work on. It helps to stretch that creative muscle, which is what journaling is all about.
I was so loving the warm sunshine today. I even got to play in the dirt a little bit! My phlox already have some blooms, so I know Spring is truly on it’s way.

This week I am finishing up the videos for the Shades of Grey Workshop. I hope to see many of you joining me on this new adventure! I just ordered the BIG Pitt Artist Brush Pens, in the warm greys, can’t wait till they get here!

Taking it Easy March 3, 2009

Today I am taking a breather! I have been frantically consumed with the business side of art, just getting one thing taken care of and another pops up. So I am limiting my computer time, taking a break from writing, and as the kids have only a 1/2 day at school, I am going to relax with them, do some journaling in front of the fire tonight, with my feet up! I hope you all take a little moment for yourself today, a rest from the fast pace of life.
